Artist's impression of the view from London Wall into the new City Gallery

How does the redevelopment affect my visit?

Although the lower galleries – which explore London’s history from 1666 to the present day – are closed for redevelopment, you can still discover the city's many incarnations in the London before London, Roman London and Medieval London galleries, together with London's Burning, a special display on the Great Fire, and a series of topical exhibitions.

A full programme of activities and events for all ages, bringing London's past and present to life, will continue throughout the works. Find out what’s on over the coming weeks.

During this time of change we will endeavour to make your visit as enjoyable and free of disruption as possible. Should we need to carry out works during opening hours we will do our utmost to keep noise and dust to a minimum.

Can I still see the Lord Mayor’s Coach and Victorian Walk?

During the redevelopment exhibits from our lower galleries are unavailable to view, however many of your favourites, such as the Lord Mayor’s Coach and the Victorian Walk, will be back on display when the new galleries reopen.

If you’d like to check whether your favourite objects are still on display please call us on 0870 444 3851.
